Your custom pattern will include options for 4 different fits:

Casual Fit:  For those of us that no longer have the hourglass shape of youth, the casual fit is knit straight up from hip to shoulder. It maintains the feminine neckline and lacy sleeve, but has a casual and modest  outline.

Soft Shaping Fit:   This is a very forgiving, yet feminine silhouette. A panel of ribbing underneath the arm adds “negative ease” which means that the sweater will cling to your body. If you want less “cling,” add one inch to your measurements so that the sweater can skim over your curves. This is a good choice for a small busted, thin woman.

Very Shapely Fit:  Add increases and decreases designed to follow your curves to the soft shaping of the ribbed side panel. You will be measuring not only your hips, waist and bust, but the rate of increase and decrease, and shaping the front and back of the sweater to follow your curves. This fit is NOT for the faint of heart, but will look amazing on a youthful figure. Again, you can add an inch to your measurement so that the sweater is not too tight.

Better than Classic Fit:   Remove the ribbed panel, but follow the instructions for the Very Shapely Fit. The sweater will fit you perfectly without the cling.

Yarn Yardage Requirements

While we would like to offer a simple yarn estimate in our custom patterns, however, the amount of yarn you will need will depend on choices you make like whether to make the garment a cropped or tunic length. We've anticipated that, and we have created charts that allow you to estimate yarn needed based on your choice of weight as well as length.  Please refer to our yarn estimation charts and read the article for helpful hints on how to estimate the amount of yarn you will need.

Notions

24” or 32” US 6 needles or size required to make gauge

Note: The body of the sweater is knit in the round. 32” circular needles are best in most cases.

4 stitch markers

To measure a proper gauge, cast on 40 stitches using the needle size recommended for the yarn. Knit in Stockinette for at least 10 cm. Take swatch off the needles, lay it flat and measure in the center towards the top of the swatch. Knit using suggested needles first. Adjust needle size until you have a swatch that feels soft and drapey without being too loose.
