Jolette's Swing Coat
Custom patternJolette's Swing Coat is in the style of a 1960s tailored coat with a wide skirt that moves and swishes with the wearer. The inspiration for the nostalgic designs of Oleg Casini and Givenchy.
With its feminine skirt and classic silhouette, the design translates well into a modern piece for everyday wear. While the style originally allowed for wearing full skirts underneath, they have been worn throughout the decades in different forms and looks great over anything from pencil skirts to skinny jeans.
As a custom pattern, the coat can be knit in any yarn weight or fiber type depending on your climate, the season, or other preferences. Just knit your swatch in your yarn of choice, input your gauge into the project, and generate the pattern! And yes, as always, the pattern is available in your exact size.
Yarn Yardage Requirements
While we would like to offer a simple yarn estimate in our custom patterns, however, the amount of yarn you will need will depend on choices you make like whether to make the garment a cropped or tunic length. We've anticipated that, and we have created charts that allow you to estimate yarn needed based on your choice of wieght as well as length. Please refer to our yarn estimation charts and read the article for helpful hints on how to estmate the amount of yarn you will need.
Notions:
24" or 32" circular needles in the size used to obtain gauge
Cable needle
12 stitch markers
To measure a proper gauge, cast on 40 stitches using the needle size recommended for the yarn. Knit in Stockinette for at least 4 inches. Take swatch off the needles, lay it flat and measure in the center towards the top of the swatch. Knit using suggested needles first. Adjust needle size until you have a swatch that feels soft and drapey without being too loose.
